Nötron yıldızı, yıldızların yaşamlarının son bulabileceği biçimlerden biridir. Bir nötron yıldızı dev bir yıldız Tip II, Tip Ib veya Tip Ic bir süpernova olarak patladıktan sonra geri kalan kısmın kendi içine çökmesiyle oluşur.

Nötron yıldızları, kütlesi Chandrasekhar limitine yakın (Güneş' in 1,35 ile 2,1 katı arasındaki) yıldızlardan meydana gelmektedir. Bir yıldız, yaşamını yapısında bulunan hidrojenleribirleştirip helyuma dönüştürerek devam ettirir. Normal şartlar altında bu füzyon olayı yıldızın boyutunu sabit tutmaya yeter. Yani içeri doğru olan kütleçekimine karşılık dışarı doğrufüzyon tepkimesinin neden olduğu enerji vardır, bu yıldızın boyunu sabit tutar. Örneğin güneşten daha küçük yıldızlar sıkışarak kahverengi veya kara cüceleri meydana getirir.

Kara Delik:

Kara Delik uzayda maddenin çok küçük bir noktaya toplanması ile meydana gelen bir nesnedir. Kütle çekimi o kadar güçlüdür ki ne ışık ne madde ne de her hangi diğer bir informasyon onun "olay ufkundan" uzaklaşamaz. Bu yüzden görünmez ve sadece kara bir delik olarak belirir. Ölen bir yıldız eğer güneşimizin üç mislinden daha ağırsa nötron yıldızı seviyesinde kalamaz çekirdeğindeki tepkime ve yoğunluk artması devam eder ve "kara delik" haline gelir. Kara delikleri nasıl gözlemlenir? Eğer kara delik bir çift yıldız sisteminin (binary) parçasıysa o zaman normal yıdızdan kara deliğe madde akışı olur. Madde akışı açısal momentumun korunması prensibine bağli olarak kara delik çevresinde bir disk oluşturur. Bu disk maddesi kara deliğin yakınında büyük yerçekimi potensiyeli altında müthiş sıcaklıklara ulaşmakta ve X-ışınları yaymaktadır. Kara deliklerin gözlemlenmesine yardımcı olan çevresine verdiği etki ve yaydığı X-ışınlarıdır.

But more recent calculations show that a truly advanced civilization might be able to make wormholes work. By using something physicists call “exotic matter,” which has a negative energy, the civilization could prevent a wormhole from collapsing on itself. The stuff of science fiction, to be sure. But perhaps some day in the far future, it could also turn into science fact.
